GI Interaction

How SYGN303 works at the GI mucosal surface

The cells lining the intestine are coated with a polysaccharide layer called the glycocalyx, which helps create a barrier to infection. When the glycocalyx is damaged, bacteria can leak through the intestinal lining and cause inflammation in the gut. The modified polysaccharide drug SYGN303 mimics the barrier function of the glycocalyx and helps prevent further damage. SYGN303 also reduces the inflammatory response to damage, promoting healing of the GI mucosal surface.
